Vagabon’s Tiny Desk Concert will brighten up your day
Two thirds of the way through Vagabon‘s Tiny Desk Concert she reveals that she taught herself to play her instruments just four years ago. Had she not said this, one would assume she’s been making music for her entire life. Whether playing solo, or with Evan Lawrence accompanying on bass, Lætitia Tamko and her music is hypnotizing. Her Tiny Desk set is less than ten minutes long, but will stick with you for the rest of the day nonetheless.
Throughout her three-song set the Camaroon-born artist plays and sings with immense confidence. Even as she sings “Cold Apartment”, which she said she wrote during a particularly difficult time in her life, she does so proudly. Watching her, you can’t help but be proud of her too. If she has gotten this far in only four years, Tamko is headed for a bright and long future in music.
In addition to the hauntingly beautiful “Cold Apartment,” Tamko also performed “Fear & Force” off of her debut, Infinite Worlds, and a new track. The latter, titled “Full Moon in Gemini”, will serve as the opening track on her upcoming album, All the Women in Me. It is unclear if the song will stay as bare as it is in this performance, or if it will follow in the pop-leaning footsteps of lead single “Flood Hands.” Either way, it is a another stellar Vagabon track and we can’t wait to hear it on the album and live when Tamko tours with Angel Olsen this fall.
