A lot of artists have an objectively “good” stage presence, but few have the energy Low Cut Connie brings to the table. Frontperson and pianist Adam Weiner is an exceedingly natural performer. From standing on the piano bench and playing with a leg extended during “Death and Destruction” to jumping off the stage and giving out hugs and kisses during “Shake it Little Tina,” he makes for a wildly unconventional performance.

Adam’s idiosyncratic behavior is not unmatched by his bandmates. Pink-haired, tambourine toting, Abigail Dempsey is touring with the band. She not only provided supremely talented background vocals and guitar skills but accompanied Adam in his wild antics with some shuffling dance moves. The band’s guitarist even jumped off of the piano in their closing number, a cover of Harry Nilsson’s “Jump into the Fire.” And while immobile due to his instrument of choice, drummer Ehssan Karimi was nothing but talented throughout.

Low Cut Connie’s afternoon performance was fueled by both covers and original tracks, with a brief improvisational rendition of “Tomorrow” from Annie thrown in the mix. They’re a band that is equally talented as they are hysterical and captivating.

Part of the setlist, the band performed “Private Lives,” a track set to release on their upcoming 2020 album. Adam also took a moment to announce Low Cut Connie’s upcoming performance at Union Transfer this November. If you weren’t able to make it to XPNfest, be sure to check them out then!
