Philly artist Dani Gershkoff, who sings and plays flute in Hardwork Movement, has started a new solo project under the name Kladky. Its debut EP Dawn will be released this fall and the single “C.I.T.K.” — as the lyrics reveal, it’s short for “crying in the kitchen” —  is streaming now.

“Kladky is a new project about matriarchs, chosen family and healing through song,” Gershkoff writes by way of introduction. “C.I.T.K.” opens a cappella, before Gershkoff’s vocals are joined by hand claps, synths and a flute solo to round out the catchy, genre-bending track. She shares on Instagram, “‘C.I.T.K.’ is a song about queer family, and how sometimes I’m chasing my own tail trying to please the ones I love the most, when the truth is that all the love I need is right in front of me.”

Kladky celebrates the release of Dawn with a show at the Art Dept. Collective on October 5. The event will also feature performances by Likebirds, Lauren Scott and DJ Aura, as well as healing herbs by Rosey Maple and live painting by Hannah Westerman.
