Virtual concerts to watch during the coronavirus quarantine from The War on Drugs, Vita and the Woolf and more
In our first week of self-isolation for the coronavirus pandemic, we’ve seen musicians adapt to the crisis in all sorts of unique ways — and we expect a lot more of that as the weeks and months progress. (Look for Isolation Drills to become a recurring series here at The Key.) Looking ahead, here are a few virtual gigs and music hangs streaming to a living room near you in the near future.
The War On Drugs’ #QuaranTones
We don’t know when exactly this is happening, but last night The War On Drugs’ Adam Granduciel posted on Instagram about a stream happening from his basement, awesomely titled “QuaranTones.” “Let’s listen to some new, almost finished songs, some experiments, some old multi tracks, or maybe we’ll just listen to Automatic for the People through a Dimension D,” he writes. Matthew Law Presents Law’s Lair Radio
Another one of the best working DJs in Philadelphia is going to be rocking the party from home in the nightly Law’s Lair Radio show. Every night at 8 p.m. ET, Law goes live on Instagram with a mix of hip-hop, soul, R&B, and generally sick grooves, and fans can listen back to each show via Mixcloud afterwards. Dave Hause is in the house with Quarantine Blues
Bummed that Dave Hause’s homecoming concert at Union Transfer got called off last week? Grab tickets to see him play a streaming acoustic concert called Quarantine Blues via Stageit today at 3 p.m. ET / noon PT. Vita and the Woolf takes Anna Ohio on a virtual tour
Philly’s Jen Pague is set to release the latest album from her future pop project Vita and the Woolf this spring, but her Anna Ohio tour plans got sidelined like so many others because of the pandemic. This week, Vita and the Woolf is making up for the missed dates with two virtual shows; on Thursday, March 19th, Pague plays on Instagram Live, and on Friday, March 20th, she plays on Twitch Live. A kids’ concert for grownups care of the Philadelphia Folksong Society
After successfully hosting their first streaming concert last Friday, the folks at Philadelphia Folksong Society are moving into regular digital programming. Tonight, Cheltenham’s Jenny and David Heitler-Klevans, who perform as a the kids’ duo Two of a Kind. PFS writes “While they usually present concerts for families and children of all ages, for tonight’s show they’ll be playing songs of hope in difficult times in a ‘concert for grownups!'” [INFO]
Studio 4 provides Relief 4 our Brothers & Sisters in the Arts
Legendary Philly producer Phil Nicolo is setting up his Conshohocken home base Studio 4 to host a daily webcast concert, with inaugural show happening tonight at 8 p.m. He has quite the roster queued up for tonight: Lauren Hart and Schooly D host the proceedings, with TrapRabbit playing live with collaborators Marc Browstein of The Disco Biscuits, Mondo Cozmo, Christian McBride, and Rob Hyman of The Hooters. During the broadcast, Nicolo and the Studio 4 family will be encouraging viewers to donate to local nonprofit 30amp’s “cost of living fund” that awards grants to Philadelphia artists and musicians getting hit the hardest by the coronavirus epidemic.
