Brooklyn-born, Philly-based singer-songwriter Ariel Skye debuted last year with the three-song EP Open Spaces, and just this weekend released her first new song of 2020.

Built around the clean-tone strums of interlocked electric guitars, as well as Skye’s sleek, spirited voice, “Hurricane” recalls emotive singer-songwriters of the 70s like Laura Nyro and Joan Armatrading. The central character is deeply enamored, but also dragged around by the object of their affection, returning because they reason “maybe this time is different.”

“I wrote this piece about lust, retribution & redemption,” Skye wrote on Instagram. “A literal banger, if you will.”
