Oceanator laments the state of our times on “A Crack In The World”

Brooklyn-based artist Oceanator has recently announced her debut album, Things I Never Said, will be released on August 28th on Plastic Miracles. As Oceanator, Elise Okusami makes indie rock drenched in waves of distorted guitars, yet still rings with sharp, pointed, pop hooks. While Okusami contributes guitar, bass, drums, synths, and vocals to her debut project, she has also been featured as a drummer for Vagabon’s 2017 debut, Infinite Worlds. Okusami’s previous projects include two EP’s, 2017’s EP and 2018’s Low.

Things I Never Said is supported by lead single “A Crack In The World,” out this week. The single showcases dense guitar power-chords set against Okusami’s energetic drumming and singing. In the last third of the track, Okusami transitions a striking guitar riff into a half-time, melodramatic outro with just the right amount of unabashed bombast. She sings “When you see the news on the tv, on the radio / But i’ll keep trying to keep the skies blue anyway,” acknowledging the current state of our times (the titular “Crack In The World”), but focusing on self-improvement and individuality.
