Kississippi goes full pop on the smitten new single “Around Your Room,” signs to Triple Crown Records

On their first new song in two years, Philly’s Kississippi leans hard into the “pop” side of frontperson Zoë Reynolds’ indie-pop songwriting.

Drawing inspiration from Carly Rae Jepsen and Taylor Swift, “Around Your Room” floats on a shimmering synthesizer pulse, and gives you a banging beat to bop along to as Reynolds sings of the soaring joy that comes with new love.

In a press release, Reynolds says the song is a story of yearning and infatuation. “It’s about being hopelessly enamored in a way that took me back to my youthful perception of love. It represents those moments where you’re fully infatuated with someone and they’re all you can think about.”  

In a music video shot by filmmaker and former Foxing bassist Josh Coll, we see Reynolds and her partner in a series of domestic settings, swaying and singing along to the song, but also vanishing and reappearing, separated in surreal ways, blurring the lines between dreams and reality in a way that’s uncertain but ultimately full of romantic hope.

“I’ve written about love in a cynical manner in the past,” Reynolds says. “This song was written as a reminder of the magic and euphoria that comes with it.”
