AllegrA shared a new single, “Parts Of Me,” for an upcoming compilation featuring queer artists. Out March 5, Trans Musicians and Allies for Change will benefit Trans Lifeline, a nonprofit support hotline serving the transgender community.

For their contribution to the comp, AllegrA explores identity and individuality, asserting the power of building a strong sense of self and not changing for others.

“The song is about the moment when you realize that you’ve been unconsciously mirroring someone else and that you’ve lost track of your true sense of self,” AllegrA told us. “It’s about reclaiming your individuality, standing up to those who maybe put you down or want you to change. And it’s about noticing the distinction between when someone wants you to change as a means of supporting and nourishing your growth versus when someone wants you to change so you can look more like a reflection of them.”

Organized by Philly artist Port Lucian and Z Tapes Records, Trans Musicians and Allies for Change will also include new music and demos by fellow local musicians Harmony Woods, Buddie, Highnoon, and more. Stay tuned for more information and listen to “Parts Of Me” below.
