Philly son Kurt Vile has had a remarkable run on Matador Records, releasing six of his eight LPs (including lotta sea lice, his 2018 collab with Courtney Barnett) via the iconic indie label, but now he’s taking the next step with his career. Today, Vile announced that his ninth album will be released in 2022 via Verve Records — the legacy major label that has been home to a variety of artists from Frank Zappa and Art Tatum to Tank and the Bangas, and one of Vile’s personal favorites, as he wrote on social media.

I’ve admired the Verve Records logo on the back (and front!) of many -a- velvet underground album since my teens. in particular the logo on the back of the vinyl boxset of the quine tapes has been haunting me for the last several years now… for whatever reason i often find myself staring into it (true story!).so when i was approached by the label to be signed i was surprised and honored to be sure… but i had already felt that subliminal enchantment and i knew it was a, well… sign

Vile went on to say that his last release, 2019’s Bottle It In, is “my deepest record and i’m still really proud of it,” and that he is excited to release its follow-up on Verve next year.

“‘I’ve got hundreds of songs and ideas in the can, on paper, and in tape recorders all strewn about the ‘kv zone,'” he writes. “Nuggets recorded before-and-after pandemic times… in studios and from home… music past, present and, yup, we’re still rolling. it’s gonna be heavy, it’s gonna be beautiful… and it’s gonna be out there.”

We at XPN extend our congrats to Philly’s constant hitmaker Kurt Vile, and can’t wait to hear what more is in store from this next chapter.
