Dr. Dog’s last tour ever will end with four nights in Philly
We have news today from the Dr. Dog camp that is…I don’t know if sad is the right word? Perplexing?
In short — they’re still a band. But they are “done touring for good”, after a farewell run that wraps up with four nights in Philly at year’s end; two at the TLA, two at Union Transfer.
They shared this news in an emotionally conflicted Instagram post that is at once excited about one last U.S. run, and also bittersweet over the fact that Dr. Dog — easily one of the best live bands to come out of Philadelphia in the past 20 years — is coming to the end of their days on the road.
Done touring for good! It is a disturbing thing to read, I’m sure, and trust me, an equally unsettling thing to write, but it’s all good. It’s important to us that you understand that this is not a break up or anything like that. We don’t know what Dr. Dog will do, we just know it won’t include going on tour, except the tour we’re announcing now, which is going to rule.
In addition to multiple nights at FRED the Festival in Vermont and Bristol Rhythm and Roots, the band is playing two nights at D.C.’s famed 9:30 club in September, plus two nights apiece at Thalia Hall in Chicago and First Avenue in Minneapolis in October.
Their regional dates include Asbury Park’s Sea.Hear.Now Festival on September 18th, plus a year-end extravaganza in Philadelphia, where it all started. They’ll play the TLA on December 28th and December 29th, and Union Transfer on December 30th and New Year’s Eve.
