We first encountered Wilmington’s Sug Daniels as the dynamic frontperson of funk-blues-rock powerhouse Hoochi Coochi, but she’s got a more introspective solo songwriter side too, on display in new music she’s released this spring. Last month Daniels released a new single called “Heavy,” and this week a music video came along to accompany it.

The ukulele-led pop song about falling in love and all the uncertainty that go along with it is given a visual dimension in Daniels’ self-directed music video that finds her in her apartment, deep in her feelings, not sure which direction to take next. Do I wear this outfit or this one today? Do I read a book or the latest issue of Cherry-Veen Zine? Play my uke or go for a walk? And what does my roommate want, anyway?

As the song progresses, we find Daniels getting beyond the impasse — “I gotta shoot my shot,” she sings — and a Facetime call later, the relief is profound. Watch below, and hear more at Daniels’ Bandcamp page.
