“Feel the Real” with Musiq Soulchild on hefty, new 24-track LP

A few months back, Grammy-nominated, suave R&B master, Musiq Soulchild announced news of his upcoming album, Feel the Real. Today, the wait is over as Soulchild’s hefty double-disc of twenty-four tracks has been released.

Included in this multitude of music are a smattering of collaborations, from Marsha Ambrosious, to Willie HyN, to Neil deGrasse Tyson–reverse record scratch-– Yes, you heard me correctly. That Neil Degrasse Tyson. Everyone’s favorite no-nonsense astrophysicist makes a wonder-filled cameo on the track, “Moon,” as two legends join forces for an softly explosive result. Neon lights and late night moments are the focus of a new video for Philadlephia native Musiq Soulchild‘s “I Do,” the lead single from his forthcoming Life on Earth LP.

The video’s narrative takes us on the rollercoaster of one couple’s relationship, following them from day-long argument to reconciliation in a diner, while other couples enjoy less volatile evenings together. Continue reading →


Tonight’s Concert Picks: Cat Power at The Electric Factory, Musiq Soulchild at The Blockley, Tiger Waves at Kung Fu Necktie

Indie pop favorite Cat Power headlines The Electric Factory tonight.  Singer, songwriter and Georgia native Chan Marshall released her first album of original material since 2006 last year with Sun, following up 2008’s covers record Jukebox and 2006’s The Greatest.  Unlike many new releases, Marshall announced the title of Sun back in 2006 when work initially started.  Departing from her previously introverted, quiet and often sad sound, Marshall incorporated bright electronic layers and a tougher vocal style on Sun to trumpet her return.  Tickets and information for tonight’s all-ages show can be found here.  Below, watch the video for “Cherokee.”

Musiq Soulchild announces January appearance at The Blockley

A contemporary master of Philly R&B, Musiq Soulchild announced a headlining appearance at The Blockley on Wednesday, January 30.
