Veteran R&B/soul singer Patti LaBelle is a Philly icon, from the girl group days of The Blue Belles through her pop prime and career in acting, baking, activism and beyond. And though she’s orbited the area in recent years — playing a couple Atlantic City shows, gigs at Longwood Gardens, in Delaware and Bucks County — she hasn’t played a proper Philly concert since a headlining stop at The Dell in 2018.

That changes this fall when LaBelle headlines The Met Philly on Saturday, December 9th. The concert, just announced this week, is being billed as a holiday homecoming — meaning we’re expecting to hear not only classics from her pop catalog, but her forays into gospel, seasonal highlights and more, with a band in a grand setting. Presale tickets are available now, with the public onsale happening this Friday, June 9th at 10 a.m. More information can be found at WXPN’s Concerts and Events page.

Though this is her first public Philly performance in a proper venue in five years, LaBelle did record two local livestreams during the COVID-19 lockdown — she sang in front of the Liberty Bell for an Independence Day broadcast, and she appeared with Gladys Knight in a VERZUS battle streamed from at The Fillmore Philadelphia. She also sang during a Good Morning America taping at Eakins Oval in 2019.

Below, listen to a playlist of career highlights from the Philly icon.
