Record Store Day is this Saturday, April 21st. To celebrate, WXPN and Cheers Elephant are hitting the road for a “pop-up concert tour.” The band will be performing a short set at each stop along the way. First stop is Repo Records in Philadelphia at 10:45am. At 1:00pm Cheers Elephant will set up at Main Street Music in Manayunk. At 3:15pm the final stop will take place at Siren Records in Doylestown (Philly’s Creepoid will be performing right before Cheers Elephant). We recently e-mailed Blair Elliot, the owner of Siren Records, about Record Store Day. He says “Record Store Day is so important because every year it seems to re-boot and create an intense interest in collecting vinyl, and visiting and supporting record stores throughout the rest of the year.” We also gathered some quick facts from Elliot:

The first record store you ever visited?
Third Street Jazz & Rock in Philly (the original location)

-Favorite record store in-shop performance?
Circa Survive (Record release for “On Letting Go”, June 16th 2007)

2012 special release your store is most excited about?
Mastodon / Feist split 7″ (totally fascinating and strange pairing!)

Best record find?
King Sunny Ade & His Green Spot Band – The Master Guitarist Vol 1. (paid 25 cents at a thrift store)

Coolest vinyl design?
Herbie Mann – Push Push (die cut cover with velvet picture inside cover, very 1970’s)

Favorite vinyl?
The E.T. box set (narrated by Michael Jackson) with poster.
