Photo: Krystle Blackburn Derek Vincent Smith is Pretty Lights, an electronica musician from Fort Collins, Colorado who is one of the stars of the genre. Cutting his teeth DJ’ing on bills with Philly’s Disco Biscuits and Widespread Panic, Pretty Lights very quickly went on to playing major music and electronica festivals around the world. Recently he released an ambitious new album, A Color Map of The Sun, his first album where he did not use samples. Instead, he recorded the basic tracks with himself and musicians with real instruments in several studios. He then pressed those studio recordings onto vinyl to use as the samples for the new record. It’s been released as a double CD including one CD with just the studio tracks. Pretty Lights’ albums are available for free/name your price here. Pretty Lights plays the Susquehanna Bank Center on Friday, November 1, and will be touring with a band for the very first time. Go here for tickets and more information.
