Minnesota bluegrass roots rockers Trampled By Turtles release their new album, Wild Animals, on July 15th. Last summer the band played the XPoNential Music Festival and sans drums and electric guitars, rocked hard, displaying their exceptional virtuosity on an assortment of acoustic instruments. Trampled By Turtles’ new album was produced by Low’s singer Alan Sparhawk. Like the Avett Brothers, the Turtles can be both elegant and raucous. In concert, TBT can rival any speed metal band with the quickness of their playing, yet they are equally as capable of playing intentionally well paced delicate songs, of which Wild Animals contains many, including “Hollow,” “Silver Light,” and the waltzing “Ghosts.” Only “Come Back Home” captures the high energy side of Trampled By Turtles, however the album continues to showcase one of America’s best roots music ensembles.

TBT are playing Union Transfer on Wednesday, September 10th. Go here for tickets and more information about the show.
