Local bands A Day Without Love and Uncle/Father Oscar recently released a split EP, fittingly titled A Day Without Oscar. Alt-rock four-piece A Day Without Love, who just released their latest EP Confessions of the Innocent Mind earlier this year, starts out the EP with “Lost Children,” a song with the same apocalyptic feeling the band explored on Innocent Mind. However, during “Broken Bridge”, the band puts on a more intense rock vibe, a slightly new direction.
Also featured on the bill is Uncle/ Father Oscar, whose band name is an awesome, hopefully intentional reference to Arrested Developement. Last year, the quartet released their debut EP Whami Guam Brad. The five-song collection had a mix of humor, with pun titles like “Me, A Ham” and “You, Sane Bolt,” and a healthy does of emo-punk. On the split EP, they head in a more pop-punk direction with some bouts of passionate screaming and guitar freakouts on “Was that a Mistake?”. Their second song, “Renee, Renee” is a great end to the EP its impressive guitar melodies and raw anguish.
Overall, the EP is a great collaboration between two up-and-coming local bands. Catch both bands at North Star Bar September 18th. Get more details here. Listen to A Day Without Oscar below.
