Together since 1970, the Austin based country and Western swing band Asleep At The Wheel are once again paying tribute to the King of Western Swing, Bob Wills and his Texas Playboys.

As they did on 1993’s Tribute to the Music of Bob Wills and The Texas Playboys, Ray Benson and his band Asleep At The Wheel are releasing a star studded special tribute to Wills, Still the King: Celebrating the Music of Bob Wills and His Texas Playboys, on March 3rd. Asleep at the Wheel is joined by a variety of musicians to honor the Western swing sound popularized by Willis and his group. The forthcoming album features guest appearances by Merle Haggard, Willie Nelson, Amos Lee, George Strait, Jamey Johnson, Old Crow Medicine Show, Brad Paisley, Jamey Johnson, Lyle Lovett, Kat Edmonson, Robert Earl Keen, The Avett Brothers, Shooter Jennings, Tommy Emmanuel, and others.

Below, listen to the version of “The Girl I Left Behind Me,” featuring the Avett Brothers. Asleep At The Wheel play World Cafe Live on Monday, March 2nd.
