Listen to Sleater-Kinney’s new single “Hurry On Home,” see them play The Fillmore this fall
A few months ago, Carrie Brownstein of Sleater-Kinney shared a photo of the band in the studio with Annie Clark, aka St. Vincent. Now, Sleater-Kinney has shared a new single,”Hurry On Home,” produced by Clark, along with a lyric video directed by Miranda July. There’s no official album announcement just yet, but a press release describes the new single as the “first hint of more eagerly anticipated new music on the horizon.” Sleater-Kinney will tour North American this fall, with a show at The Fillmore on October 27.
The trio of Brownstein, Corin Tucker and Janet Weiss released their last record, No Cities To Love, in 2015 following a nine-year hiatus. They’ve been hinting at a collaboration with Clark for awhile — St. Vincent covered “Modern Girl,” from Sleater-Kinney’s 2005 album The Woods, last year — and their new music sees them embracing different sounds. “Hurry On Home” dwells on the words “unlovable, unlistenable, unwatchable — and if you’re in New York, you may see posters around town featuring those lyrics and the striking single artwork.
The band shared a statement on the new music. “I think for Carrie and Corin it was liberating to explore a different sound palette,” Weiss says. According to Brownstein, “Instead of just going into the studio to document what we’d done, we were going in to explore and to find the essence of something. To dig in deeper.” And Tucker says working on the new music “was like this manic energy of empowerment.”
