WKDU‘s annual Electronic Music Marathon will return for its 16th year this fall. The EMM has become a yearly tradition for local DJs, who will gather at Drexel’s student-run radio station from Friday, October 11 through Sunday, October 14 to present a weekend full of non-stop electronic music.

In its 16 year history, the EMM has raised over $30,000 for various non-profits in the Philly area, including Mural Arts, Philly AIDS Thrift, Attic Youth Center, and Philadelphia Animal Welfare Society (PAWS). Proceeds from this year’s marathon will directly benefit WKDU to help sustain the station’s funding throughout the year. According to a press release:

At WKDU, we have been comfortably sustaining the station every year as a treasured potpourri of local music and podcasts, in addition to consistently giving back to the community at every chance we get. This year, however, your friendly, neighborhood radio station is in a unique fundraising position, where we are investigating sources of funding outside the university’s annual allocation. As such, we ask Philadelphia to support us as the sole beneficiary of this year’s EMM, so we can expand our technical capabilities and flourish in Philadelphia’s non-commercial scene, enriching the lives of even more lovely radio listeners.

WKDU’s ongoing partnership with Philly AIDS Thrift continues this year with a series of “Thrifty Disco” listening and dance parties. A portion of the proceeds from the Thrifty Discos will benefit the EMM Scholarship Fund, a new initiative that will allow for the inclusion of local DJs and musicians who would otherwise be financially unable to participate. Find more information on the scholarship fund and register to participate at wkdu.org. Sponsorship opportunities are also available.

Tune in to WKDU at 91.7FM this October to hear the Electric Music Marathon, and follow along using the hashtag #2019EMM.
